We Don’t Have The Slightest Clue What This Is About

Last month I spent ages preparing my tax return for Japan. Finally I finished it and took it to the local tax office, posting it in the late night tax drop box.

Imagine my surprise then when last week I received it returned to me with a note in Japanese saying (translated by a friend): “We don’t have the slightest clue what this is about.”

Eh?

So I got my friend to call them up. What was the problem? “We are the blah blah tax office. You should send your tax return to the blah blah blah tax office.”

“Where is the blah blah blah tax office?” my friend asked.

“Next door.”

So while knowing where my tax return should go, instead of posting the tax return next door for me or even telling me why they were returning it to me, they sent it back saying “We don’t have the slightest clue what this is about.” And they sent it back late, so if I was due to pay tax, I’d need to pay a penalty – thankfully I’m due tax back.

I bet they do this to everyone who is due a tax refund…

Crash At Narita

I landed at Narita last night. I remember the plan shaking as it landed due to the wind.

A cargo aircraft crash landed due to strong winds at around 6:50 a.m. Monday morning at Narita International Airport, east of Tokyo, and burst into flames, Chiba prefectural police said.

The crashed plane, an MD-11, was FedEx Flight 80 from Guangzhou, China and was manned by a pilot and co-pilot, according to the transport ministry’s Narita airport office. Police said it remains unknown whether there are any casualties. The cargo plane landed on Runway A, the longer of the airport’s two runways, the office said. The runway is currently closed.
